CHIVAYO GETS RICHER WHILE ZIMBABWEANS DIE WITHOUT TREATMENT

Wicknell Chivayo is smiling all the way to the bank again. This time, he has signed a new government deal worth more than US$400 million. The deal is for cancer treatment equipment. But people are asking: is it really about helping cancer patients, or is it just another way for Chivayo to get rich?
Chivayo is very close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Because of that, he keeps getting big government tenders. He already got deals in electricity, defence, construction, internet, transport and even the 2023 elections. Now he is also going into the health sector.
The cancer equipment deal was signed with the Office of the President and Cabinet. The government will pay Chivayo a total of US$109 million every year. The contract will last for four years. That means he will get more than US$400 million in total.
The payment will start in March 2025. The government will give him US$52.5 million as a deposit, just 14 days after signing the deal. After that, he will be paid US$9.1 million every month, starting April 30, 2025. These monthly payments will continue every month until March 2026. Then the same payment plan will repeat for the next three years.
All payments will be done in US dollars and will be sent to Chivayo’s bank account using electronic transfer.
Many people in Zimbabwe are shocked by this deal. The country has no proper hospitals. People are dying every day because they cannot get treatment. There is no medicine in clinics. Doctors and nurses are leaving the country because they are not paid well. But one man, Chivayo, is being given hundreds of millions of dollars.
Why is this deal so secret? Why was there no public bidding? Why does one man keep getting all these tenders? These are the questions people are asking.
Some are also asking if this cancer equipment will really be delivered. In the past, Chivayo was given big money for power projects but failed to do the work. There are court records showing how he failed to deliver but kept the money. Now the same man is being trusted again with our health system.
This is not just about money. This is about life and death. Cancer kills many Zimbabweans every year. Most people only find out they have cancer when it is too late. We need working hospitals. We need trained doctors. We need equipment that actually works. But now, the same tender system that failed electricity is being used for cancer care.
The people who make these decisions are playing with our lives. They are giving our future to one man, because he is close to the top. And that man is getting richer while the poor are getting sicker.
This must stop. Government tenders must be open. They must go to companies that have experience and care about service, not just profit. Our country cannot afford more fake deals. We are already suffering.
This new deal shows us how bad things have become. It is not about helping people. It is about helping friends. This is why Zimbabwe is not moving forward. Until this system changes, we will keep seeing stories like this—where a few people become millionaires, while the rest are left to die in silence.
We must speak out. This is not politics. This is life. Enough is enough.
