WICKNELL CHIVAYO, ZEC MONEY, AND THE SCANDAL HE CAN’T ESCAPE

Wicknell Chivayo is a name many Zimbabweans know. He is known for showing off money, cars, and connections with big politicians. He is also very close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa. But now, he is in deep trouble. A US$100 million scandal is surrounding him. This money was for Zimbabwe’s 2023 elections. But it looks like some of it ended up in the wrong pockets.
The scandal started with a tender to supply election materials. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) gave this job to a South African company called Ren-Form CC. The total payment was R1.2 billion, which is around US$66 million. From that amount, Chivayo got R800 million, which is more than US$40 million.
How did he get it? That’s what everyone is asking. Chivayo did not win the tender himself. He was not even officially part of the deal. But somehow, his companies and other groups linked to him got the money. Now, both Zimbabwe and South Africa are investigating the deal. There is talk of money laundering. There are suspicious bank transfers. There is a lot of smoke. And where there is smoke, there is usually fire.
When the story first broke, it was reported by NewsHawks. Other media also picked it up. Then the South African Financial Intelligence Centre started its own investigation. Now, it’s clear that this is not just a rumour. There is a real investigation going on. Authorities are following the money.
This week, Chivayo tried to defend himself. He posted a long message on social media. In the message, he said he did nothing wrong. He said people are jealous. He said he is a hard-working businessman. He even said if people don’t understand contracts, they must go to night school.
But his message was not clear. It sounded like he was angry. It sounded like he was trying too hard to explain. Many people who read it say it did not help his case. In fact, it made him look even more guilty.
He also said he never worked with ZEC. But if that is true, why did his companies receive such a large amount of money from the election tender? He said there was no missing money, no crime, and no complainant. But investigations are still going on. And many people are watching closely.
Chivayo blamed the media. He blamed people in exile. He blamed the opposition. He said all this was a political attack. But he did not answer the main question: why did he get US$40 million from a tender he was not part of?
The people of Zimbabwe are tired. They are tired of corruption. They are tired of fake tenders. They are tired of people who use political power to get rich while the country suffers. Hospitals have no medicine. Schools have no books. Roads are broken. And yet, some people are getting millions from government deals.
Chivayo says he wants to be the youngest billionaire in Zimbabwe. He says no one will stop him. But the truth is, this time the law may catch up with him. No matter how powerful he thinks he is, the people are watching. The world is watching.
This scandal is not just about Chivayo. It is about how ZANU PF has used state power for personal gain. It is about how elections are stolen with money. It is about why Zimbabwe is poor even when it is rich in resources.
This is not over. The investigations will continue. The truth will come out. And justice, even if it takes time, will arrive.
