PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA DEEPENS ZANU PF POVERTY MODEL

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has once again shown that Zanu PF will never change from its old way of keeping people poor to control them. Today in Torwood, Kwekwe, Mnangagwa gave 10 000 chicks and stockfeed to the Midlands Zanu PF Women’s League under what he calls the Presidential Poultry Scheme. This is just another example of the ruling party using handouts to buy loyalty instead of building a fair and strong economy for everyone.
For many years, Zanu PF has made sure that most people stay in poverty. It is not by mistake. It is their plan. When people are poor, they depend on the ruling party for survival. They cannot speak out or vote against the government because they fear losing the little help they get. This is why the government prefers to give out chickens and mealie-meal instead of creating proper jobs and industries.
In a normal country, the government’s duty is to make sure every citizen has a chance to work, earn money, and live a decent life without begging from politicians. There should be a stable economy where hard work is rewarded, not one where people must praise a political leader to receive food or livestock. But in Zimbabwe, Zanu PF has turned poverty into a weapon. They use it to control who gets what and to punish those who support the opposition.
The Presidential Poultry Scheme sounds like a good project, but when you look closely, you see that it is just another political trap. The 10 000 chicks will not solve the big problems facing Zimbabwe. They will not fix the broken currency, they will not stop corruption, and they will not bring back the industries that Zanu PF destroyed over the last 40 years. They will only benefit a small group of people connected to the ruling party.
Real change would mean giving every farmer, business person, and worker the same chance to succeed without needing a party card. Real change would mean creating a free and fair market where people are rewarded for their hard work, not for their political loyalty. But Zanu PF fears that if people become independent and wealthy, they will no longer need the party.
It is sad to see that after all these years, Zimbabwe is still stuck in the same cycle. During election time or when the party feels threatened, it gives out handouts to make people believe it cares. But after the ceremonies and speeches, nothing changes. People go back to struggling, and the leaders go back to enjoying their wealth and power.
The Midlands Zanu PF Women’s League will now be told to work hard on the poultry project and to remember who gave them the chickens. This is how the ruling party creates a sense of debt and obedience. It is not about development. It is about control.
Zimbabwe has so much potential. We have land, resources, and skilled people. But as long as we have leaders who see poverty as a political tool, that potential will never be reached. The government should focus on creating an environment where people can succeed on their own, not one where they must clap hands for a bag of stockfeed.
This is why we must speak out and reject these fake solutions. We need policies that lift everyone out of poverty, not just those who dance at rallies. We need leaders who believe in empowering the whole nation, not just their supporters. Until that happens, Zimbabwe will remain trapped in the Zanu PF poverty model, where handouts replace real progress and loyalty is bought with chickens instead of earned through good governance.
