WICKNELL CHIVAYO, CORRUPTION AND THE SUFFERING OF ZIMBABWEANS

Wicknell Chivayo is a businessman in Zimbabwe. Many people call him a “tenderpreneur” because he gets many big government tenders. He is close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa. This friendship has helped him get rich while most Zimbabweans are poor. This is a very big problem in our country.

Chivayo has been in the news many times. He shows off his expensive clothes, cars and holidays. He says he is successful in business, but people ask questions. How did he get so much money? The answer is simple: government deals. He wins many government contracts. He is always close to those in power. When someone is always winning tenders and is close to the President, people begin to worry.

The biggest worry is corruption. Many Zimbabweans believe that Chivayo gets tenders not because he is the best, but because of who he knows. This is what we call cronyism. It means giving jobs or business to friends instead of choosing the best person. This is bad for the country. It stops good people from getting work. It stops honest business from growing. It makes the poor people suffer more.

The government of Zimbabwe says it wants to fight corruption. But it is hard to believe this when people like Chivayo keep getting big contracts. If the government is serious about fighting corruption, it must start by looking at people close to the President. No one should be above the law. Not even a friend of the President.

Zimbabwe is a very rich country. We have gold, diamonds, and other minerals. But most people are poor. Why? Because a few people like Chivayo take the money and leave the rest to suffer. This is not right. This is not fair. Our leaders must stop helping their friends and start helping the people.

Many young people in Zimbabwe are unemployed. They finish school and find nothing to do. They cannot start businesses because the government only helps its friends. They cannot get loans or tenders. They watch as people like Chivayo grow richer every day. This makes people angry. It makes people lose hope.

People want change. They want leaders who care. They want a system that works for everyone, not just for a few people at the top. We need leaders who listen to the people. We need a government that helps all Zimbabweans, not just tenderpreneurs.

Chivayo’s actions are not just about business. They affect politics too. When one man has so much power and money, he can control things. He can control who gets what. He can even control what people say. This is dangerous for democracy. In a good country, everyone must be free. No one should control others just because they have money.

As a political activist, I say enough is enough. Zimbabweans must speak out. We must say no to corruption. We must say no to cronyism. We must say no to people who get rich while others go hungry. Chivayo is not a hero. He is a sign of what is wrong in our country.

The future of Zimbabwe is in our hands. We must fight for justice. We must demand better. We must not be afraid. Together, we can change things. We can build a better Zimbabwe. One where hard work is rewarded, not connections. One where people like Chivayo no longer take from the poor to feed the rich.

Let us open our eyes. Let us rise. Let us say no to corruption. Let us say yes to a new Zimbabwe.
