ZIM HOSPITALS IN CRISIS: EVEN A MINISTER IS SHOCKED

The health system in Zimbabwe is broken. Everyone knows it. But now, even people in ZANU PF are beginning to admit it. Tino Machakaire, the Minister of Youth, visited a hospital and could not believe what he saw. For the first time, a ZANU PF leader has said the truth that many of us have been shouting for years. Our hospitals are not just bad. They are dangerous. They are killing people.
Machakaire went to see a relative in a public hospital. What he saw shocked him. The hospital was in a bad state. People are suffering. There is no clean environment. There is no proper care. People are lying on the floor. Some don’t even have beds. There is not enough medicine. Doctors and nurses are tired and frustrated. This is not how a hospital should look in 2025.
He said he felt bad after the visit. He was deeply touched. He said he realised that many people in Zimbabwe are in pain. They are facing serious problems every day when they go to these public health centres. He said the cries from citizens are real. They are not lies. They show the true suffering of many people.
He told President Mnangagwa that things are bad. He said he knows the president cares about the people. He said the president is a kind man who wants people to be happy. But Machakaire also said sometimes leaders focus too much on talking about progress and forget to see the real problems. He said maybe the president does not know how bad the hospitals really are. So, he is begging Mnangagwa to go and see for himself.
He said the president should leave his busy schedule for a moment and go to these hospitals. He should go without warning. No cleaning before he arrives. No fake beds prepared for a photo. Just visit and see what normal people go through every day. That is the only way to understand.
Machakaire also said that people who speak out about these problems are doing a good thing. He praised them for their bravery. He said they are not enemies of the government. They are people who care. They want change. And they believe that leaders should listen.
But here is the problem. Many of us have been saying this for years. Nurses have gone on strike. Doctors have gone abroad. Mothers have given birth on dirty floors. Children have died from diseases that can be treated. And ZANU PF has ignored us. They tell us everything is fine. They build useless clinics with no medicine. They open buildings but forget the staff. It is all for the camera.
Now that one of their own has seen it, maybe they will finally listen. But we are not holding our breath. Many times before, they have promised change. They have made speeches. But then nothing happens. The rich go to private hospitals. The poor die in silence.
We need real change. Not just visits. Not just talk. We need action. We need money put into health, not luxury cars for ministers. We need working hospitals, not broken promises. We need leaders who care every day, not only when their relatives get sick.
Zimbabwe is not poor. But our leaders are selfish. Machakaire has seen the truth. Now let’s see if he will push for change. Or if he will forget like the others. One thing is clear — Zimbabweans are tired. We want better. We deserve better. And we will keep fighting until we get it.
