THE CHURCH SAYS NO TO 2030 SHENANIGANS

The Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) has spoken about the idea of changing the Constitution to let President Emmerson Mnangagwa stay in power past 2028. They are asking the President to reject this idea. The Church says extending the presidential term limit is not good for the country and goes against the Constitution.
In their statement, the ZHOCD says it is wrong for some Members of Parliament and political activists to ask the President to extend his term. They say this would mean the President is helping to break the law. The Constitution of Zimbabwe has clear rules about how long a President can stay in power, and the Church says these rules must be respected.
The ZHOCD reminded everyone that President Mnangagwa has promised to follow the Constitution. He has said before that he will not try to extend his time as President. The Church believes the President will keep his word and stay true to his oath to respect and protect the law.
The Church says the President’s promise is important. It helps to build trust in Zimbabwe’s democracy. It also shows respect for the liberation struggle and helps to keep the country peaceful and united.
The ZHOCD also says it is the duty of the Church to support democracy and the rule of law. They want Zimbabwe to have free and fair elections in 2028, where power will change hands peacefully. They believe this will help the country grow and solve its problems.
The ZHOCD warns that if the presidential term limit is extended, it will make people lose trust in elections. They say this could lead to chaos at a time when Zimbabwe needs peace and unity. They also believe that following the Constitution and holding fair elections will keep Zimbabwe stable and help it move forward.
The ZHOCD is calling on the President to stand by the Constitution. They say he must allow elections to happen in 2028 and make sure power is handed over smoothly. They also ask all Zimbabweans to support the Constitution and put the country first.
The ZHOCD is also asking the government to make sure elections are free and fair. They want reforms to improve how elections are run. This will ensure that elections are transparent and credible. The Church also says it is important for political parties to follow the law and respect the Constitution.
The ZHOCD says Members of Parliament have a big role to play. They must ensure the Constitution is followed and make sure the President respects the law. The Church also wants MPs to stop any plans to extend the presidential term limit.
The Church ends their statement with a Bible verse from Micah 6:8, which says: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
The Church wants Zimbabwe to focus on justice, peace, and unity. They believe these values will help the country grow and build a better future. The ZHOCD hopes everyone will support their call to protect the Constitution and ensure that elections happen as planned in 2028.
The message from the Church is clear. Zimbabwe must follow the law, respect democracy, and work towards peace and development. Extending the presidential term limit is not the answer. It is time for all Zimbabweans to come together and do what is best for the country.
